Why Potty Toilet Train Early?
The “wait till they are ready” child-centred approach has been described by researcher A.Christies from University of NSW as a method introduced as a response to over-zealous parents of the 1950's and was never intended for modern parents of the noughties.
Over time well-meaning parents have been lead to believe that waiting until a child is ready to toilet train is the best way to ensure good self-esteem. There is now a growing concern that in fact waiting till a child is ready may be counter-productive. A. Christies & Drs. Acredolo & Goodwyn have indicated similar concerns in relation to the method of waiting.
We do not believe that the average parent can not be bothered with toilet training. We believe that the average parent is being provided information from various well-meaning sources who are sharing outdated potty training practices to modern parents.
Easy Toilet Routine Communication - Because we now know more than we ever did about how babies communicate with us. One of the greatest barriers to toilet training is the ability to communicate the different areas within a toileting routine; toilet now, more?, finished?, wash hands. These concepts were hard to rely to babies until they were verbally talking. Now with the Baby Signs ® program we can begin the toileting routine as early as babies are communicating!
Easier Earlier than Later - Fact is that toilet training your child before they turn two is easier than if you were to start after. As they get older they want to make more and more decisions of their own. This development is healthy and normal, however it can create resistence to the potty training processs if they choose to decide they want to engage in other things like riding their trike.
Good for the Environment - With the introduction of nappies in the early 1960s, the average age for toilet training has increased higher and higher. Today Australian children are toilet trained 36 months for girls and 38 months for boys. So potty training earlier will save between 1500 and 3000 nappies going to the landfill each additional year your child is in nappies!
Excellent for Child Development - Besides providing you with a easy and fun way for your child to have freedom from nappies, they also will benefit from using baby sign language. Two decades of research by our founder's Drs. Acredolo & Goodwyn which was mostly funded by the American National Institutes of Health, has shown:
Fun for your Child - Our Baby Signs ® Potty Training kit comes with resources that any child will find fun and engaging helping them to be motivated and excited by the idea of becoming an independent toilet user.
