Baby Sign Language - ACA A Current Affair

Back in September 2009 Baby Signs Australia was thrilled to be invited by Channel Nine's ACA - A Current Affair to highlight the array of benefits the Baby Signs ® program offers families and their babies.

It's been a fantastic experience for all of the Baby Signs Australia team. ACA's Filming took place in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney! It certainly is an Australian wide baby signing program. Here at Baby Signs Australia we are proud to be representatives of the original baby signing program, which not only has a huge popularity, but is backed by baby signs research and created by child development experts.

The Baby Signs Program

Our Baby Signs ® program started with a Mum, Dr. Linda Acredolo, who had noticed her daughter's interest in using the same natural gesture to show her delight at seeing flowers. This Mum had no idea that this observation would years later start a worldwide phenomena of baby communication.

Our co-founder Dr. Linda Acredolo, who was at the time a professor in child psychology, partnered with her friend Dr. Susan Goodwyn, a child development expert, to explore the possibility of babies using simple gestures as a means of communication before they could talk.

The Baby Signs Book

After many years of work and research into the idea that it would be beneficial for babies to use gestures before they could talk, Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn released their book Baby Signs. This book spurred a worldwide movement of parents and caregivers using signs with their babies. As a result, many books over the years have been fashioned in similar ways as a result of the Baby Signs book release.
